Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic might face each other in Rogers Cup final – Tennis News
Top seed, Novak Djokovic is the most favourite contender against the British number one, Andy Murray, at the Rogers Cup 2012, at the Rexall Centre in Toronto. Both players secured a straight sets victory against their competitors
in the second round of the tournament, determined to beat all odds in their way.
Previously in 2011, the Serbian tennis ace won the Montreal Masters against the sixth seed, Mardy Fish, by 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Follow the similar trend this year, he smashed a straight set victory against the Australian Bernard
Tomic, 6-2, 6-3, on Wednesday.
At the end of the second match, the Serb told the media, “For the first match it was a decent performance. Obviously, at the start, we played very long opening four games, and I was struggling to find the rhythm… It’s totally
different conditions, time zone, ball bounce, everything.”
The Serbian added, “But I love playing on hard court. It’s my favourite surface. Obviously when I needed to play well and be patient, I’ve done that really well today. Serve was working really good, so that’s a positive.”
The former world number one will be facing the 17th ranked, Sam Querrey in the third round. However, Querrey might just provide slightly tougher competition as he is in a good run of form this season.
He secured a straight set win against the 13th seed, Kei Nishikori of Japan in the second round.
Meanwhile, the Olympic champion, Murray, landed on the hard courts of Toronto after celebrating his straight sets upset against the reigning world number one, Roger Federer. He will surely play with the same zeal as he did
at the Great Games in London. In the second round, he defeated the Italian qualifier Flavio Cipolla in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. He will be meeting the Canadian, Milos Raonic, who is determined to secure the title on his home soil.
Nevertheless, Djokovic strives to reclaim his top rank. He is desperate to bag home this title after facing some crucial losses earlier this year, such as semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships and his bronze title against
Juan Martin Del Potro in the Olympic.
As the other underdogs, start falling down against these champions, there is a greater chance that the Serb is most likely to compete against the Scot in the title match of the Rogers Cup. After the withdrawal of King of
Clay, Rafael Nadal and Swiss Maestro, Federer from the Canadian Open the stage is ready for the two in the finals.
