Andy Murray back in the game at the Los Angeles Tennis Open
After enjoying a long vacation in Miami, Andy Murray is going to participate at the Los Angeles Tennis Open. Murray’s vacation in Miami has given him a chance to recover from the hectic schedule at Wimbledon and has given him some time to work on his fitness for the U.S. Open.
The LA Tennis Open is going to be the first tournament that he will play after the recently concluded Wimbledon Championship. The tournament is taking place in California and is known as the ATP Farmers Classic. The organizers of this event have given Murray a wildcard entry into the game after the world number two Novak Djokovic withdrew due to some personal problems. The 2007 LA Open champion Radek Stepanek withdrew from the event because he was facing knee problems. This leaves Murray as the top seeded participant in the tournament.
The director of the tournament, Bob Kramer, said that they had been anticipating the participation of Djokovic for the first time in LA. However, when Djokovic could not do so, they were fortunate and thrilled to have Murray be a part of this grand event. Although Murray has participated in California before in San Jose and Indian Wells, this is his debut in Los Angeles. He has been successful in San Jose by winning titles there in 2006 and 2007 and has reached the final of the 2009 Indian Wells where he ended as runners-up to Rafael Nadal. This tournament gives a bright chance for Murray to further enhance his success in California.
Andy Murray is currently ranked as the world number four. He has not become a Grand Slam champion as yet but he has reached the finals of the 2008 U.S. Open and at the Australian Open this year. This Scottish is the first British player to have gone as high as the world number two since 1934. Hence, Great Britain has a lot of expectations from Murray.
Participating in the LA Tennis Open will help this tennis star prepare himself further for the U.S. Open, which will begin on the 30th of August. Before planning to enter the LA Open, Murray was scheduled to take part in the Rogers Cup and the Cincinnati Masters but for now, he will be flying over to America’s West coast to participate in the LA championship. The LA tournament will be taking place from the 26th of July to the 1st of August, leaving enough time for the Scot to fly to Canada and compete in the other two events before the commencement of the Grand Slam in New York, America, which will come as the real challenge.
Along with Andy Murray as the top seed, there are other good tennis players who are also going to be a part of the LA Tennis Open. The 3rd ranked American professional tennis player, Sam Querrey, is going to enter the tournament as the second seed. Querrey was the champion at the LA Open in 2009. The Cypriot tennis player, Marcos Baghdatis, who was a finalist at the 2006 Australian Open, is going to be the third seed at the LA Open this year.
Ahead lies a busy and tough schedule planned out by Murray for himself, but he says that he needs all the practice and exposure he can get before the U.S. Open. He plans to make it big at this Grand Slam tournament and hopes to win his first major Grand Slam championship this season.
