Andy Murray besieged by the hero’s welcome from the supporters – Tennis News
Newly ranked world number three, Andy Murray, just can’t get enough of his majestic conquest over the former world number one, Novak Djokovic, who was also the defending champion at the US Open in New York. The Scot won the match
in five sets to lift his maiden Major trophy at the centre court of New York and since then the number one Briton has been receiving different honours, hero receptions and everything a professional athlete can dream off.
One of the main reasons of such a overwhelming response from everyone is due to the fact that Murray is the first British player to win a Grand Slam Championship after a gap of 76 years; last time it was won by Fred Perry in 1936.
So, it is definitely a dream come true for his supporters as well who have waited for almost a lifetime to witness one of their tennis heroes lift a Grand Slam trophy.
Signing infinite autographs and waving to the gigantic crowd that jumbled up to give a hero’s welcome to their number one tennis ace, Murray walked from Clarendon Place to Dunblane New Golf Club. Posing for pictures with the trophy
in one hand and a gang of supporters on the other side of the Scot, it is definitely something that the third ranked British tennis icon will never forget.
Murray expressed the delight of being at the receiving end of such an amazing greetings in following fashion “I lost track of the amount of autographs I’d signed about half-way round the route, it was all a bit of a blur after
that.”
He further added, “Dunblane is a very strong community. My grand-parents are involved in a lot of the activities. Everyone knows everyone and it’s a small place, so that’s probably why everyone feels as if they know me as well.
When I’m away playing, I’m not aware of the support back home but when I speak to my parents and grandparents, they always tell me about how supportive everyone has been.”
The youngsters of Dunblane are looking forward to the Scot as an inspiration and want to revive the glories stamped by the Scot in the near future. They want to make Grand Slam victories, a tradition, so that people don’t have
to wait for such long time period to witness someone achieving the highest trophy in the world of tennis. It is definitely going to be a major step in enhancing the confidence level of young British players who are in line to represent their country in near
future.
