Andy Murray bids for a 'golden' ending at Olympics - Tennis News
British number one, Andy Murray, thrashed the Serbian tennis ace, Novak Djokovic, in the semi-final of the London Olympics at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon on Friday. The Scot continued his sublime run of
form and belted Djokovic in a straight set match of 7-5, 7-5, to earn a place in the title round.
This match has guaranteed him a silver medal, adding to the Great Britain’s haul. The upcoming Olympics final will now give him a fair chance to upset the top-seeded Swiss, Roger Federer, and avenge the loss he suffered in
the final of Wimbledon Championships last month.
The reigning world number one is the 17-time Grand Slam title and the favourite contender to bag home the gold. However, this will be his first Olympic final in the men’s singles. Talking about his maiden Olympic gold medal
match, the 25-year-old Brit told the media in a press conference, "It's so rare for him to be in a position where he's trying to do something new because he's achieved so much in tennis. I hope that will even things out a little bit. Most times I've played
him, he's experienced the situations way, way more times than me."
He further added, “Playing against Roger is always tough. I have had some good wins against him and some tough losses. I will have learned from the Wimbledon match. I want to try to win. It is going to be a tough match. I
hope it's a great match because the way the semi-finals went.”
The young Scot also has a fair chance to win in the mix doubles category with her fellow British, Laura Robson, on Saturday. Nevertheless, he is still bouncing with energy. Previously, he has never been able to secure any
title in any Major tournament and now, is desperate to be the victor in his home Olympics.
Despite of the British professional’s high claims, Federer has immense potential to beat him on his day. He is very familiar with Murray’s game plan and knows how to smash him down. His recent victory of the longest three-set
singles in Open era against Juan Martin Del Potro was the most entertaining match of the Olympics. He surely believes that his experience this time will serve to his advantage.
Federer is all geared up after Murray’s response and is ready to repeat hid triumph at the Champions earlier this season. For the gold medal is simply Federer’s destiny!
