Andy Murray blows away Marco Chiudinelli in round two – Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2012
Third seeded Briton, Andy Murray, cruised to the quarter-final draw of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after dumping the Swiss qualifier, Marco Chiudinelli, in the second round clash on Wednesday afternoon. The world number
four took one hour and 22 minutes to formulate a comprehensive straight sets victory at 6-3, 6-4, booking a place among the final-eight of the star-studded tournament in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Murray was has been suffering from illness during his opening round match against Germany’s Michael Berrer but his quality performance in the Wednesday’s encounter against the Swiss faded away all the doubts about his physical
fitness. The third seeded Scot blasted his way through Chiudinelli in an assertive fashion, beating the 185th ranked bleak opponent in every segment of the game.
Murray delivered 64 per cent of his serve on target and clinched 25 out of 34 first serve points en route to victory. He crafted six break opportunities in the match and converted just two of them to dispose of Chiudinelli, who
badly failed to register a single break point in the entire contest. It was Murray’s 12th victory in the 2012 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) season and the first one against the 30-year-old Swiss veteran.
"I definitely played better [than yesterday]," said Murray. “[I] still wasn't moving as good as I would have liked, but [I] served well today.
Murray will take on the world number seven, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic, in the quarter-final round of the Dubai Tennis Championships. Berdych registered a comprehensive straight sets victory, 6-1, 6-2, against the Slovak qualifier,
Lukas Lacko, in the second round of the tournament.
When asked about his next opponent, Tomas Berdych, Murray said, "I've always enjoyed playing guys that are big hitters. That's his game. I'll have to try and find a way of neutralising that by getting the first hit in the rallies,
using a lot variety in my game. He can make mistakes, but you need to force him into doing that. He's not just going to give you that. If you leave the ball in the middle of the court, he hits the ball very, very well."
Murray has already bagged a Championship title earlier this season at the Brisbane International tournament and his fiery start to the voyage in Dubai clearly hints that the Briton is well up for extending his championship title
count to 23 this week.
