Andy Murray can achieve a lot more, believes Ivan Lendl – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, can improve his game a lot according to his coach and legendary tennis player, Ivan Lendl. The American has said that he has a lot of plans to further refine the British star’s game.
Lendl has not set any target of Grand Slam wins for Murray but he wants to achieve the goal regarding improvement in his game. The eight-time Grand Slam winner thinks that Murray has achieved just 20 percent of what Lendl wanted
for him when they joined hands.
In his latest interview, Lendl said, "As long as it works for both of us, I can see myself being with him for the rest of his career. I have a lot of plans where I would like to see Andy end up with his game. I think [he can achieve]
a lot more. I'm not going to say a number of grand slams, I'm just going to say where Andy is now. I take point A – when we started working – now he's at point B, and when I envisage [where he can get to] I would say he's about 20% there."
Murray gave the task of his coaching to Lendl at the start of the season. The positive effect was clear during the first Grand Slam of the season, as the Brit played superbly at the Australian Open. The 25-year-old’s level dropped
during the clay court season but he reached the title match of Wimbledon for the first time in his career. Though, the result was same for him, as he lost his fourth straight Grand Slam final.
However, Murray made breakthrough one month later, as he stunned the then world number one and top seed, Roger Federer, to capture Gold Medal at the London Olympics. The British number one achieved what he was waiting for the last
many years by winning the US Open title.
However, Wimbledon crown is still a huge priority for Murray. Lendl added, "The question is 'is he going to win Wimbledon?' and know he will give it a good crack.”
Lendl believes that Murray has a number of years to give a shot at the Wimbledon title.
