Andy Murray chokes out once again in the big match – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, has been the real tennis sensation for the recent few months and was seen in prime form in every tournament he played. However, the Brit couldn’t completely get rid of his bad habit of choking in
the crunch matches against highly ranked players. Same happened in the Group A match of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Wednesday afternoon.
Murray was to take on the newly ranked world number one, Novak Djokovic, in a crunch game of the season-ending grand finale and was supposed to repeat his US Open final’s performance to hunt down the Serbian juggernaut. He started
off in an excellent manner, breaking Djokovic in the very first game of the match and sealing the opener convincingly at 6-4 to get in the driving seat. It was anticipated that the British number one will continue with his impetus in the following two sets
as well but a sudden slump in his game play caught everyone by surprise.
The Serbian number one turned the tables on the home favourite contestant in the second set with a cracking break of serve and a series of forays. He broke Murray in the sixth game of the set and it was all done to crumble the
Briton’s confidence. Djokovic cruised through the second set to bring the set scores to one-all.
Local crowd at the glorious O2 Arena was fully backing up Murray to make his comeback in the decider but it was to their sheer dismay when Djokovic nailed an early break point to post a 3-1 lead. Murray didn’t lose heart and backfired
at the world number one for the last time in the match, breaking his serve in the eighth game to level the scores at 4-4. The rekindled British hopes were extinguished by a critical break point conversion from Djokovic in the 11th game and he served
out of the match at 6-5.
Overall speaking, it was a well fought match on Murray’s part but much better performance was expected from the world number three player. He got an ideal start to the contest, got his opportunities later on, but his inability
to sustain the impetus in the crunch matches proved extremely taxing for him in the end. His Wednesday’s loss to Djokovic is perhaps given this much disappointment to his fans because they were expecting him to replicate the heroics he exhibited in the final
of the US Open. The British number one tennis player has groomed a lot this season but he still needs to learn under intense pressure situations.
