Andy Murray concerned about the strange week – Tennis News
Great Britain’s top player, Andy Murray, acknowledged that he was a bit frustrated at the way things have gone on his road to the title match at the Sony Ericsson Open.
The world number four will take on top seed and defending champion, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, in the final.
Murray advanced to the title match in Miami, courtesy to a walkover in the semis. His opponent, Rafael Nadal, withdrew from a much anticipated contest due to a knee injury.
Murray, who had a bye in the first round due to his high ranking, also received a walkover in the third round, when Milos Raonic of Canada pulled out with an ankle injury.
The Brit played his last match four days back, when he rallied to beat ninth seed, Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia, in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Talking to the reporters in a press conference, Murray said, "You don't play a match for three or four days it is different to having played one or two days ago. But then the positives are you are going to be fresh and physically
feeling fine.”
The Brit added, "We will have to see how it is on the day, it has never happened to me before so I don't know how I will feel in the final but I will definitely be fresh."
The 24-year-old was disappointed that he was unable to test his game plan against Nadal. According to Murray, he has formulated theories to tackle his three biggest rivals in collaboration with his coach, Ivan Lendl.
The Brit said, "Every time you play one of the top guys in the world, it's a good opportunity to see where your game's at. We worked on a lot of things to see if certain tactics would work against Rafa, Novak and Roger.”
Murray can now test his tactics against Djokovic in the final. He will be facing the Serbian for the third time in his season, winning one of the two previous encounters.
The Brit lost to the reigning world number one in a five set thriller at the Australian Open semi-finals. Murray avenged his loss after a month, as he thrashed Djokovic in straight sets in the semis at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis
Championships.
Murray will be looking to win his second title at the Sony Ericsson Open. The Brit downed Djokovic to win the crown in 2009.
