Andy Murray consoles Arsene Wenger on an embarrassing loss to Bradford – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, tried to console the manager of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, after their embarrassing loss to Bradford.
On Tuesday night, the elite football club in the English Premier League, Arsenal, faced an embarrassing defeat from an inferior-tier league team, Bradford, in the pre-quarter-final round of the League Cup. The match was tied at
1-1 in the normal time and no goals were score during the extra time that enforced the penalty shoot-out at the home ground of Arsenal known as Emirates Stadium.
Two players from Arsenal struck the woodwork during the shoot-out and lost it 2-3 which was very humiliating for the home team. It was their opportunity to increase the chances of ending an eight-year title drought but they couldn’t
live up to the expectations of their fans.
Their manager, Arsene Wenger, is under the cosh with a poor league record, along with an embarrassing exit from the League Cup this year.
Despite such a miserable run, the 25-year-old Scot has offered to play for the Arsenal team and show some of his football skills that will help the squad to end the terrible show. It was a light offer from Murray who wanted to
help Wenger in these tough times.
Explaining on his favourite role at the football pitch, Murray said, “It would have been great to play for Hibernian, but the ultimate would be Arsenal. [I’d want to play like] Jack Wilshere. Pulling strings in midfield, but not
afraid to get stuck in.”
He further added, “It's hard to play other sports because of the risk of injury, but we [on the tennis circuit] play football when we can. We agree not to tackle hard, but then forget! Tsonga is a very solid right back. I played
a match with him and he was very good in that position. I had to make a decision between football and tennis. Tennis won. I think I made the right decision.”
The reigning US Open Champion had a chance to appear in the trials for Rangers at the age of 15 but opted for tennis as the professional sport and it has turned out to be the right decision. The Scot has already registered a breakthrough
season in 2012, having won the first Grand Slam title of his career at New York after clinching a Gold Medal at Olympics. Now, he wants to put on the football boots and play alongside Wilshere to help Arsenal revive the glory days of football.
