Andy Murray crushes Michael Berrer in third round – French Open 2011
Brit Andy Murray defeated German Michael Berrer in straight sets to move ahead at the 2011 Roland Garros in Paris, France on Saturday, May 28th.
The fourth seeded Scot took a little over two hours as he secured a 6-2, , victory against his German opponent.
A quarterfinalist here in 2009, Murray has long wanted a Grand Slam win under his belt. Although the Brit has made it to three Grand Slam finals, he has never clinched the prestigious title. However, things might just change this
time around. Set in a comparatively easy draw, Murray enjoyed straight set wins against local qualifier Eric Prodon and lucky loser Simone Bolelli in his previous two rounds here.
Facing minimal resistance from Berrer, Murray rushed into an early 3-0 lead in the opener as he capitalised on a mini-break in the second game. The Brit continued his assault against Berrer as he further his lead to 5-2 before
breaking the error prone German in the seventh game to secure a 6-2 victory in the first set.
Murray took around 37 minutes in the opener as he went one up in the set score, recording a 75% win on his first serve including eleven winners.
Some resistance from the German in the second set kept the scoreboard ticking on even terms. However, a break later Murray was leading the set 5-3 before serving out without a single point loss to secure a 6-3 victory.
The in-form Brit maintained his dominance in the third set as he reeled off four straight games to lead the score 4-0.  Although Berrer managed to reduce the deficit to 1-4 in the fifth game, the winner was evident now. Even though
the German was successful in holding his serve in the seventh game, there wasn’t much room for him to bounce back. A wide forehand from Berrer at 40-30 in the eighth game, enabled Murray to serve out the third set at 6-2, sealing his third straight sets victory
here.
Murray moves on ahead to play Serb Viktor Troicki. Troicki survived a second set lapse to secure a four set 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win against Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov in his third round match.
