Andy Murray declines to play in the Davis Cup tie against Belgium – Tennis News
Andy Murray is not going to represent his home country, Great Britain, in the Davis Cup tie against Belgium. He has stepped away from his duties to nation and probably disappointed masses in United Kingdom.
British number one, Andy Murray is currently ranked fourth in the world. He is a world class act and a supreme tennis player but apparently he is focusing on his personal career and not paying any attention to his duties to the
country that made him the tennis icon.
Currently the number one Briton is playing in the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. He is doing pretty well and looking to give strong test to his superior ranked competitors; has already defeated the reigning world number one, Novak
Djokovic, in Dubai. He commenced this season on a very high-note; winning the season-opener in Brisbane. He was close on getting the second silverware of the season in the Dubai Duty Free Championships but the legendary tennis icon of Switzerland, Roger Federer,
stood in his way in the finale.
Considering his emphatic performances, it would have been a major boost for the Great Britain squad if he was the part of the team but sadly he will not accompany them to Glasgow in April. It was acceptable if her compatriots were
amongst the Top-20 players of the world and appearing in the advanced stages of the tournaments but disappointingly, he is only great production of that continent and his absence will definitely blow away the chances of winning the tie.
The captain of Belgium team must be relieved to hear the news. In an interview about the preparation for a clash against the Great Britain squad, Smith stated, “After the last win against Slovakia the team were on a real high,
but we are now fully focused on preparing for the tie against Belgium, who we know will provide an altogether new challenge.”
He further added, “It will be a real step up against an opposition who is higher ranked than us, but if the team can put on some fine performances as they did against Slovakia, then we have a real chance of qualifying for the World
Group play-offs.”
Belgian squad will be fuming with confidence and playing in front of their home crowd is tilting the result in favour of them.
