Andy Murray defeats David Ferrer in semis – Rakuten Open 2011
Saturday, 8th October, continued with the second match of the day as Andy Murray, Brit world No.4 ruptured the Spaniard, world No.5, David Ferrer, in the semi-final round of the Rakuten Open 2011. Battling out on hard blue centre court at Ariake Coliseum, Tokyo, Japan, Murray carried away the match winning 6-2, 6-3, in an hour and 21 minutes and making it into the finals.
Playing their 7th head-to-head single, the two lashed out hard; however, the Spaniard could not breach the Brit defence even once. Outranking the world No.5, Murray hampered his opponent easing off with the win and into the finals of the ATP World Tour event.
With the warm-up ending, Ferrer launched up serving first and rolled down the scoreboard winning the first game of the match, 1-0. Levelling up instantly, Murray won game 2 and switched the serve, 1-1. Breaking early, Murray outclassed the 29-year-old and took the lead commanding the set 2-1.
Serving out game 4, the Brit world No.4, hammered another breakpoint with a super forehand winner extending his lead to 4-1. Frustrated and unstable the Spaniard could not hold on to the hard fast circuit as the Brit kept on bagging games ousting his rival effortlessly, 5-1.
With two more games to go in the set, both players mustered away with a win each with Murray winning game 8 and securing the first set, 6-2.
Ferrer then moved on to the second set, serving the first game. Murray had his pressure on the Spaniard and struck. Breaking the world No.5 early in the set, Murray captivated a 2 games lead serving out game 2 and switched the serve.
Winning his first game of the set and third of the match, Ferrer stood to return again with scores at 2-1. Maintaining the 2 games lead, Murray whispered away bagging game 4, followed by the Spaniard winning his 2nd game, 3-2. Rallying out the next two games with a win for each of the players, 4-3, Murray struck again.
Serving out game 8, Brit then succeeded in breaking the final game of the match winning three breakpoints rattling the Spaniard with a 6-3 second set win.
With a straight cursive set win in the semi-final, Murray now spots the final round against the defending champion, Rafael Nadal, as they battle out for either a new winner of the Rakuten Open 2011 or the Champion retaining his title.
Murray, who has been in perfect form beating the world No.1 in Cincinnatiis ready to take his fourth title of the season, however, defending champion, Rafael Nadal, stands ready to burn out the Brit brick.
