Andy Murray denies claims of a revenge mission against Roger Federer at Olympics – Tennis News
World number four, Andy Murray, has denied the claims that he will be focusing on having the revenge from the reigning world number one, Roger Federer, at the forth coming London Olympics.
Murray, seeded third in the Olympics, lost to the Swiss Maestro in the final of the Wimbledon Championships and that ruined his chances of registering a new history in the sport of tennis.
He was on the verge of becoming the first ever Briton professional to win a Grand Slam title after a gap of more than seven decades.
Last time the British player was seen holding a trophy was way back in the 1936. So, almost a lifetime has passed and yet no tennis player from Great Britain has been able to win any of the four Major titles.
Murray could have been the only name at the hoardings if he had managed to win the Wimbledon Championships in front of her home crowd but Federer stood in his way.
Many critics believe that the Scot will be eyeing a revenge of the tearful loss that was witnessed all around the globe. However, the Briton has denied such claims and stated that he is focusing on the Games and not Federer.
He stated in a press conference “It's not about revenge. I'm not going to be playing Roger Federer possibly unless we both get to the final so that's a long way away. I think I needed a tournament like this to get ready for in
order to get over the disappointment of losing in the Wimbledon final. This has come at the right time."
Murray’s chances of winning a gold medal at the same place where he ended as the finalist of Wimbledon are enhanced due to the fact that the Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, is not participating in the event because of the knee
injury.
Nadal was the defending champion in the upcoming London Games having won the gold medal in the previous edition of the tournament, four years ago at Beijing.
However, there is still scare for Murray in the form of Federer and Novak Djokovic who are expected to meet each other in the grand finale of the Olympics.
