Andy Murray denies rumours about potential strike by players – Tennis News
Tennis players have recently launched a debate about the merciless and hectic schedule that has forced few players to pull out of several tournaments due to fatigue and injury. They have been continuously complaining that ATP Association
has been ignoring this fact that such tough schedules can end someone’s career forever due to chronic injury.
British number one, Andy Murray, also apprised the ATP Association about the possibility of players going on strike against ATP Association for not taking this matter seriously but his statement was misunderstood by the masses.
This provided an opportunity for critics to spread rumours about some underground plot being developed by the players to deal with this matter.
Murray denied all those rumours and said “When I said it was a possibility, I didn't expect that to be such a massive issue. It's so far away from being at that level. Me, and not any of the players I know, want to strike”. This
cleared the air with that entire buzz that spread like a wildfire. He also stated that players are worried with the current schedules but they are not thinking about this seriously and haven’t even sat and talked about this matter at all. However, he suggested
that a year-end meeting should be conducted by Players’ Council to deal with this matter.
World Number 4, Murray, won his second title in a row on Sunday, October 12th, by beating the World Number 2, Rafael Nadal, in the final of Japan Open, a week after his triumph in Bangkok and now looks set defend his
Shanghai Masters title this month.
British tennis star also showed his concern over the different type of tennis balls that were used in last three weeks in separate tournaments. He suggested the consistency should be maintained in using tennis balls so that players
don’t have to adjust every time. He said “If you asked a golfer to change balls every single week, they'd be hitting balls 20 yards too far and hitting shots all over the place".
World Number 2, Rafael Nadal, also showed his concern about the frantic match schedule but refused to make any comments in this matter. He said “I don't think it is the right time to talk about this. Any information you need to
know, you will know. There is something there, but I don't want to talk about it, especially when nothing is clear. Not talking is better than talking".
Shanghai Masters is already deprived from the attendance of World Number 1, Novak Djokovic, and World Number 3, Roger Federer, due to injury and fatigue issues respectively. This is a clear signal that players aren’t comfortable
with the frenzied schedule of tournaments and ATP Association should pay some attention to this matter.
