Andy Murray discusses football with his twitter followers – Tennis News
Football is the most popular sport in the world, having its followers in every country around the globe. Even the best tennis players in the world follow football keenly and are big fans of some of the top teams and participants
of that sport.
Andy Murray is no exception. The British tennis player was convinced by Fifa.com to answer questions related to football by his fans.
Joseph S. Blatter, who is the president of FIFA, was the first questioner, as he asked Murray if he had chosen tennis over football. It is pertinent to note here that Murray’s grandfather was a professional footballer some six
decades back.
Murray replied to that question by saying, “I had to make a decision between football and tennis. Tennis won. I think I made the right decision.”
The 25-year-old rightly chose tennis over football, as he has made tremendous amount of success in this sport. The London resident won the US Open title this year and became the first British player to clinch a Grand Slam crown
in the last 76 years. The Brit also captured Gold Medal at the London Olympics and reached the final of Wimbledon this year.
Murray stated that if he would have been a professional football player, his dream would have been to represent Arsenal and emulate Jack Wilshere.
He said, “It would have been great to play for Hibernian, but the ultimate would be Arsenal . [I’d want to play like] Jack Wilshere. Pulling strings in midfield, but not afraid to get stuck in!”
Murray also shared that although it’s risky for professional tennis players to play other sports than tennis, as they can sustain injury but they do play football in leisure time with some predefined rules like not to tackle hard.
He added, “It's hard to play other sports because of the risk of injury, but we play football when we can. We agree not to tackle hard, but then forget! [Jo-Wilfried] Tsonga is a very solid right back. I played a match with him
and he was very good in that position.”
Murray is the centre of British media now due to his achievements for his country during this year. The promising player broke his Grand Slam duck after losing in his first four Major finals. Though, now he is expected to win a
couple of more in the next season.
