Andy Murray enjoys his best season this year – Tennis Special 2012
British number one, Andy Murray, is delighted with this best season of his career. He enjoyed a breakthrough season after making several records for his nation. The Scot conquered his first Grand Slam title and grabbed a gold medal in the Olympics held his
in home nation.
Murray is enjoying his career best season which saw him becoming the first British man to reach final at the Wimbledon Championships since 1938. He bowed out to 17-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer, but avenged his loss in the following month at the
London Olympics. Murray conquered the Swiss Maestro in the final showdown and grabbed the gold medal for his nation. He captured his country’s first gold medal for tennis in 104 years and made his nation proud.
Spicing his season further, the Scot went on to conquer the US Open, becoming first male British to win a Grand Slam in 76 years. Fred Perry was the previous British to win a Grand Slam title in 1936. Murray triumphed over second seeded Novak Djokovic in
a five-set nail-biter to steal the limelight. He was seeded third in this tournament and after tumbling several seeds including Czech number one Tomas Berdych, the Scot booked a spot in the title-round.
Murray was quoted in a post match press conference:
“I would have liked to have finished with a win. But that didn't happen. But for me, it's been the best year of my career by a mile. So why I would look back on that negatively now would be silly because I've achieved things I've never achieved before. I
have to look back on it positively. If I don't, then that would be worrying.”
The Dunblane, Scotland native pocketed several matches against big players this year. He hired a new coach, Ivan Lendl, this circuit who has won eight Grand Slam titles. With the Croatian’s arrival in his team, Murray captured the first title at the Brisbane
International.
The scot was quoted further:
“I think that's what I have to be most pleased with because when I had opportunities in big matches this year, I did try and take them. I went for it.”
Ranked third in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Murray showed dismal performances on clay courts. He exited from opening round at the AEGON Championships in Queens Club. However, he cruised to the final round at the Wimbledon and conquered
the London Olympics at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
After bagging major at the Flushing Meadows, Murray maintained his intensity and reached final four at the Rakuten Open in Japan. He kept momentum rolling at the Shanghai Rolex Masters the following week and after stunning top seeded Roger Federer, the Scot
secured a spot in the final showdown.
The 25-year-old held his composure at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London, the last tournament held between elite eight players. He displayed spectacular skills in it and made a semi-final berth (bowed out to Federer).
