Andy Murray enlisted in Top 49 most influential men of 2012 – Tennis News
British hero, Andy Murray, is among the AskMen’s Top 49 most influential men of 2012. He is enlisted among top stars including James Bond, Usain Bolt and Bill Clinton.
The Olympic gold medallist, Murray stands at number 33 on the list which is chosen by public voting. The voting process, which underwent for whole month, asked readers to determine which men had the biggest impact this year.
AskMen explained the inclusion by stating:
“After a tough loss to Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final, Andy Murray was confronted with the same choice that every man must meet when he faces adversity: Curl up in a ball or use the pain as motivation to succeed? Murray chose the latter, and less than
a month later, he got his revenge. Topping Federer in the London Olympics, he won gold in front of a home crowd. His ascent continued when he won that elusive first Grand Slam at the US Open, becoming the first British man to win a major since 1936.”
The British number one has enjoyed a breakthrough season this year. After bowing to Roger Federer in the final showdown at the Wimbledon Championships in June, the Dunblane native made a spectacular reply at the London Olympics. He eased past his entire
rivals with losing only a single set en route to the title-round. After stunning second seeded Novak Djokovic in straight sets, Murray set up a date with top seeded Federer in the final round. The 25-year-old perfected his game and crushed the 17-time Grand
Slam champion with a breadstick to capture the gold medal.
The high flying Scot carried his rhythm at Flushing Meadows. He maintained consistency in his games in it and after battling past second seeded Djokovic, Murray captured his maiden Grand Slam title. He also ended 76 years British Grand Slam title drought
and made his nation proud.
This is the sixth straight year that a player from ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour is enlisted in this Top 49 list. Novak Djokovic came into the sheet last circuit while Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were on the list twice.
Some other athlete includes the like of Lebron James (standing at number 32), Michael Phelps (occupying the 12th spot) and Tim Tebow (ranked number 44). The Chosen One Jose Mourinho, coach of Real Madrid, is also in this list (standing at number
30).
