Andy Murray eyeing a Grand Slam title after an Olympics Gold Medal – Tennis News
Gold Medallist, Andy Murray, is now thinking of stepping ahead and aiming to grab a Grand Slam title in the upcoming US Open Championship at New York. The 25-year-old completed the revenge mission on the eve of the 5th
of August by claiming a triumph over the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, who plonked him in the final of the Wimbledon Championships just few weeks earlier.
However, Murray has already got over his majestic gold medal victory and thinking about ending the drought of Grand Slam victories. He will have the next chance in September when he will step in the hard courts of New York to begin
his US Open campaign.
The Top-3 players in the world have won one Grand Slam apiece in the current season so it’s high time for the Briton to step up and claim his glory but it will not be easy especially with the comeback of the Spanish superstar,
Rafael Nadal, who was sidelined by a knee injury since the second round exit at Wimbledon.
After winning a gold medal, the Scot made his plans crystal clear by stating “I think it will help with the way I go into matches. Ivan told me after the Wimbledon final that he was really happy with the way I played the whole
tournament.”
The number one Briton further added, “By US Open time, I hope this will have given me the confidence to go in there and believe in myself a bit more than I have in the past and give myself a shot at winning there. I've played very
well at the US Open in the past. It's a surface I like playing on and I always enjoy playing on Arthur Ashe court. I hope I can have a good run there.”
Murray also cleared the air by stating that he will not burden his body a lot with long matches in the coming two weeks because he wants to be fit for the year’s fourth Grand Slam Championship and doesn’t want to rue his slight
error later.
It has already been a very long grass court season coupled with a lengthy clay court play. Players are tired at the moment and anything silly can cost them a lot because their body has already taken too much toll due to inclusion
of London Olympics in the normal schedule of tennis events. Hopefully, Murray will stay fit and fight it out at the hard courts of New York to end his Grand Slam title drought.
