Andy Murray eyes gold medal glory at Olympics – Tennis News
World number four, Andy Murray, is geared up to washout the loss of the Wimbledon Championships with a gold medal triumph at the same location, the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon. It will be terrific achievement for a
British player to achieve such a glorious moment in the history of sport but it is highly unlikely that the Scot will defy the odds and overpower the likes of the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, and the former world number one, Novak Djokovic.
One thing is running in a positive direction for the Scot and it is the statement put forth by the defending champion from Spain, Rafael Nadal, who has withdrawn from the Olympics tournament due to a knee injury. It will ease some
pressure from the Briton but it will not enhance his chances of claiming the gold medal at the London Olympics because he still has to go through the in-form Serb, Djokovic, and the Swiss legendary ace, Federer, who is unbeaten since the start of the Wimbledon
Championships 2012.
In an interview to the media reports, the number one Briton stated, "It was a tough loss, I struggled for a couple of days - it wasn't easy. But I've practiced well the last few days, the guys around me have helped; they've been
positive. Obviously with this competition coming up so soon afterwards I need to make sure I get over it because I want to do well here. After Beijing I was really disappointed with myself and I don't want to let this opportunity slip by. I want to make sure
I prepare properly to give myself the best chance to win a medal. It's a huge competition in tennis now."
Murray reached the final of the Wimbledon Championships courtesy an early round exit for the struggling Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, who was not fully fit at the start of the year’s third Grand Slam Championship. If he had managed to
reach the advanced stages of the tournament, it would not have been virtually possible for the Scot to overpower the Scot.
Maybe the luck of the Scot shines and he grabs the gold medal at his hometown but it will require a miracle.
