Andy Murray fears an early closure to his career – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, is already afraid of falling short of his dreams in the following season due to some enthralling battles against the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, in 2012.
The length of the matches sucked a lot of stamina and the 25-year-old Briton fears an injury in the coming season if the scenario doesn’t change, especially in the contests played in the Grand Slam tournaments.
In the US Open 2012, Murray accomplished a career-long dream of winning a Grand Slam title after beating the 25-year-old Djokovic in the final at New York. It was a mind-startling encounter between the two in-form players and elongated
to five sets that featured almost five hours of gruelling action.
Murray stated in an interview to The Sun magazine, “It's getting so physical. If you're playing longer points it's going to have an effect on the length of your career. I think I'll be able to hang around for four or five or six
years.”
The number one Briton is working extremely hard along with his coach, Ivan Lendl, to make sure that he can cut down the length of rallies and conserve stamina and energy levels. It will be hard for him to do that against some of
the toughest players in the field that include the likes of the former world number one, Rafael Nadal, and the reigning Australian Open Champion, Djokovic.
However, he can cut down the amount of work rate against the lower ranked players by evolving with winners early in the rallies. He has the ability to get control of the points but somehow gets into that defensive mode which forces
him to lose the command at crucial moments.
Murray is eyeing a career and game plan that will help him to elongate his career into the 30’s; more like the second ranked Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, who is still going strong at the age of 31. In June 2012, Federer added
the 17th Grand Slam title to his trophy cabinet at the Wimbledon Championships in London. The Scot also wants to replicate such brilliance when he enters the third decade of life.
