Andy Murray feels more ‘relaxed’ after his 2012 US Open title victory – Tennis News
Tons of criticism was dumped on the British number one, Andy Murray, when he lost his fourth Grand Slam final without posing any solid resistance. He was thought to be ‘incapable’ of ever winning a Major title and was often found
choked out in big matches against superior ranked opponents. However, all such denigration vanished all of a sudden the Briton won his maiden Grand Slam title against the current world number one, Novak Djokovic, at the hard courts of Flushing Meadows a couple
of months ago.
Murray had featured four Grand Slam finals prior to 2012 US Open Championships and suffered devastating beatings at the hands of his opponents. Earlier this year, he lost to the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, in the title match
of Wimbledon Championships in front of his home crowd. Murray burst into tears of disappointment at the presentation ceremony and vowed to win a Grand Slam title sooner in the future. His dreams came true at the US Open and he brought a Grand Slam trophy to
his country after 76 years’ drought.
All the critics went silent after Murray’s mammoth victory. The Scot recently told that his US open title victory has lifted a huge amount of pressure off his shoulders. The anxiety of failing at the elite stages was building so
much that he couldn’t give his best shots at other tournaments as well. However, the world number three says he feels extremely relaxed while competing against the best performances in the business these days and hopes to bag more Grand Slam titles in the
years to come.
"In the last three, four or five years there has been significant pressure in my mind and I feel more relaxed and more relieved after winning the US Open," Murray expressed. "So I think from my side I hope to take pressure off
myself and will be able to play a little bit more relaxed and hope to repeat my Grand Slam win. I don't know how I will feel going into the first round of the Australian Open so it will be a new feeling for me and I just have to deal with it."
Murray will feature an exhibition tournament at Abu Dhabi this weekend to get warmed up before the season-opening Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open. Other big guns taking part in the event include the likes of the world
number one, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych, Janko Tipsarevic and Nicolas Almagro.
