Andy Murray flashes past Alex Bogomolov Jr. into last eight – Tokyo Open 2011
Gunning for the third spot in the ATP World rankings, second seeded British Andy Murray blasted away America’s Alex Bogomolov Jr. with a breadstick at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships 2011, an ATP World Tour 500 series
event taking place from October 1st to October 9th on the hard courts in Koto, Tokyo, Japan. He registered a 6-1, 6-2 success over the 28-year-old American to secure a final eight spot on Thursday.
Entering the tournament after winning a title at Bangkok, world number four Murray slew the American in just under an hour on their third meeting. He not only booked a last eight spot but also took lead in the head-to-head series
by 2-1 against Bogomolov Jr.
Murray stormed at the Ariake Coliseum and got the first blood in the opening game to take the lead early in the match. After the American held his serve for the first time in the third game, Murray showed his class and reeled off
next four games in a row through exquisite forehands from his arsenal of skills. He faced zero difficulty and capitalised on three out of five breakpoint opportunities to his advantage.
He carried his winning ways in the final set and after levelling the scores at 2-2; the British star raised the bar of his game again and reeled off next four games in a row to seal the equaliser with an assuring 6-2 score line.
He again faced zero breakpoint and converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities to his advantage.
Summing up Murray’s performance, he smacked eleven ferocious aces and despite clobbering a lower first serve share of 63 percent as compared to the American’s 70 percent, the Scot registered a spectacular 95 percent win on it.
British number one will next face the winner of the match between Croat Ivan Dodig and Argentinean David Nalbandian. Murray is looking highly positive to ease past these opponents and to inch towards his fourth title of the season.
Dodig reached this spot after upsetting eight seeded Argentine Juan Monaco in brutal three sets and thus he could pose more threat.
