Andy Murray hails his mentor Ivan Lendl – Tennis News
World number four, Andy Murray, has a terrific chance to snap his first Grand Slam title of the career in the absence of the world number one, Roger Federer. Top seeded Swiss fell victim to an upset against the sixth seed Czech,
Tomas Berdych, and the former world number one, Rafael Nadal, who has missed out the bulk of the season due to a niggling knee injury.
It’s Murray’s time to shine bright at the hard courts of the US Open in New York. He is going to face the upset master, Berdych, in the semi-final contest on the eve of Saturday and that will be a big moment for the number one
Briton who has been waiting for an opportunity to win the Major title but hasn’t been allowed by the likes of the top three superstars who have clinched 29 out of last 30 Grand Slam titles altogether.
The Defending Champion, Novak Djokovic, is still in the contest and faced the Spanish number two, David Ferrer, in the battle for a spot in the final showdown. It will be an epic contest especially considering the form of the 30-year-old
Ferrer who looks set to register his first Grand Slam final appearance of the season.
The 25-year-old Briton was really impressed the way his coach, Ivan Lendl, has crafted ideas and plans to tackle each and every opponent; also brought finesse to the few powerful shots of Murray that he missed on most of the occurrences
during the previous season.
Murray commented about his mentor, “Ivan has made a big difference and I have started to understand certain things going into Grand Slams — how to go about my business not just on the court but off it, as well, how to conserve
energy and to go into the matches with the right mindset and attitude. Against Cilic I probably wasn’t doing a great job of that but, hopefully, I can do a better job in the next round. I’m playing better and understanding how best to play the big points in
the important matches. But I can’t afford to start against Tomas like I did in this match again — that’s for sure.”
The stage is set for the Olympics gold medallist. He needs to step up his game and show to the world that he is capable of clinching the Grand Slam title. Murray was close on becoming the Wimbledon Champion at the All England Lawn
Tennis Club but he failed to put aside the Swiss Maestro. However, there is no Federer here and he has to go through two more challenges to accomplish his goal.
