Andy Murray is proud of his Wimbledon campaign – Tennis News
Entire British nation was backing up their home hero, Andy Murray, in the final of the most coveted Grand Slam event, the Wimbledon Championships, on the eve of Monday but sheer dismay proved to be its fate. The world number four
had a real thrashing at the hands of the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, to squander away his fourth Grand Slam winning opportunity in from of his home crowd.
Despite of a ‘tough’ loss at the hands of the third seed Swiss, Murray is still proud of the efforts he put forth in this year’s Wimbledon campaign. He became the first British contender to reach the title match at the All England
Club for over seven decades. However, his Grand Slam title drought still prevails.
“Today [was] pretty hard, because you're playing in front of a [British] crowd like that,” Murray commented afterwards. “The atmosphere was unbelievable, one of the best I've played in. [My] whole family had come to watch. So,
yeah, it's tough.”
Albeit an overwhelming support from the crowd and home conditions, the Brit failed to deliver his best against the Swiss tennis genius. He started off the contest in an emphatic fashion, breaking the Federer serve in the very first
game of the match to enlighten hope in the London crowd. Murray went on to win the opening set convincingly and was serving extremely well in the following set, posing a real threat to the six-time Wimbledon Champion, Federer. However, the Maestro uplifted
his game from there and then it was an all-Federer show at the coveted Centre Court. Members of the Royal Family and the British Prime Minister had to bear watching their beloved hero receive a brutal beating from the Swiss legend. Federer claimed the last
three sets to finish off his seventh Wimbledon title victory at 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.
“I'd say that's the best I've played in a slam final,” Murray said. “It wasn't like I gave away bad games or stupid games and stuff. I played a good match. I made pretty good decisions for the most part, so I'm happy with that.
I felt more comfortable this morning and before the match than I had done maybe in the previous slams.”
It was extremely heartbreaking for the British crowd but they couldn’t restrain from applauding the Swiss maestro lifting his record seventh Wimbledon trophy. Murray was disappointed, yet hopeful of making a strong comeback in
the tournaments to follow.
