Andy Murray knocks out Tobias Kamke in the second round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Local favourite Andy Murray, ranked 4th in the world, ousted world number 83 Tobias Kamke of Germany in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 in the second round of Wimbledon Championships in London on Wednesday. It took the Brit
an hour and 57 minutes to undo his opponent in a one sided contest.
Murray took the lead straightaway as he broke the German in the first game of the opening set and held his serve in the next game to take a 2-0 lead. The next six games went with serve, taking the score to 5-3 in favour of the
Brit. At 3-5, Kamke failed to hold his serve, losing the set 3-6. Murray hit five winners and won 92 percent of the points on the first serve in the opening set. The Brit converted two of the three break points on Kamke’s serve and did not face any break point
on his own serve in the first set.
In the second set, Murray and Kamke held their serve in the first six games to tie the score at 3-3. After that, it was all Murray show as he claimed three straight games, breaking the German in the eight game and winning the set
6-3. The Brit hit nine winners and made the same number of unforced errors in the second set. The 24-year-old captured 80 percent of the first service points and 40 percent of the receiving points in the second set.
The third set went with serve until the eleventh game when Murray forced four errors from Kamke, breaking the German and taking a 6-5 lead. The Brit served out the set in the next game, grabbing it 7-5. The London resident capitalised
on one of the two break point opportunities he created on the German’s serve in the third set.
Reflecting on the match, Murray said, "I served well, especially when I was behind in games. It was quite windy on the court which made it tricky, and I thought he hit the ball very well from the back of the court. I could have
returned a little bit better. But straight sets, so I've got to be pleased with that... I've got to improve for the next match."
The two time semi-finalist will play world number 33 Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in the round of 32. The former world number 3 defeated Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.
The Brit said, talking about his next match, "He serves well. That always makes it difficult. I have to make sure I return well, which I did very well at Queen's. I'll need to do the same thing again on Friday."
Murray and Ljubicic will meet for the seventh time. They are tied at 3-3 in the FedEx ATP head-to-head record.
