Andy Murray may have chance at revenge in Rotterdam
After last week’s Australian Open loss to World Number 3 Novak Djokovic, British Number 1 Andy Murray must be understandably upset. Had Djokovic not thwarted his attempts at victory, the Scottish tennis-pro would have made it to his first Grand Slam victory.
Besides being a momentous achievement, it would also insure the player against media attacks. The British paparazzi have become more and more pushy about Murray’s failure to win a Major title, and this could have been his chance to lay those doubts to rest.
However, Andy Murray may have a chance to exact revenge upon Novak Djokovic within the upcoming week. Both Novak Djokovic and Murray are scheduled to compete in the World Tennis Tournament, which will take place in Rotterdam within a few days.
The Serbian tennis player is the most highly-ranked player at the tournament, and will compete as the first seed. World Number 5 Andy Murray is the third seed. This is an unexpectedly quick return to the game for Murray, who had hinted that he might want
to take a few months off the sport after his recent disappointment. The Scot implied that he might need recovery time, but it seems as if he has changed his mind. Post-match on Sunday, he said, “I might not play for a few months, I might feel like playing
in a week’s time. It depends, I’ll see how I feel.”
He apparently feels confident enough to play in both singles and doubles events. In addition to his participation in the singles draw, Andy Murray has also requested the organizers for a wild card in order to take part in the doubles draw with his older
brother, Jamie Murray.
In addition to this news, champion Novak Djokovic also divulged his plans to participate at Queen’s Club in June. The AEGON Championships will be held at this venue, and they will provide him with some of the experience required to make suitable progress
at the Wimbledon Championships. So far, Nole has been unable to win any grass court events; this may be about to change, considering his recent streak of success.
