Andy Murray might stick to Ivan Lendl for the next five years – Tennis News
British number one, Andy Murray, is riding the form of his life at the moment and has already won the best player’s award for his enthralling performances this season. It seems like Ivan Lendl’s coaching has finally turning out
be fruitful for the young Scott and they both have developed a great chemistry on the tennis courts. The 25-year-old has admitted that his association with Lendl might last for another four to five years.
“Ivan and I have a very good relationship,” cited Murray about his coach, “It's very honest and open, that's why it has worked so well and why both of us are planning long term. We spoke at the end of last year and it was much
more short term, such as 'let's see how the first few months of the season go'.”
Murray has been among the Top-4 rankings of ATP for the past few years but his voyages at the elite Grand Slam tournaments didn’t yield anything special for him. By the end of 2012 Wimbledon Championships, Murray had lost four
Grand Slam finals. It was said by many tennis fanatics that the Briton is literally incapable of winning a Major trophy. However, Murray shut all his critics after defeating the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, to claim the US Open Championships.
It is widely believed that Murray’s game has tremendously improved since Lendl has started coaching him. He has become more aggressive and looked more established player than he was last year. No doubt he has started to win at
an improved rate and Lendl’s training seems to be the most effective factor behind it. That is why Murray wants to stay with him for a long period in the future.
“Since the Olympics I just feel a bit better about myself,” he added, “I find it easier to walk around with my head up, whereas before I was always head down, not wanting anyone to see me or say anything. Maybe I felt that having
lost in Grand Slam finals I was letting whoever it was down.”
Murray has been rated as the hot favourite for winning the 2013 Australian Open by the tournament officials. It will be interesting how he will carry on his voyage to glory in the next season, especially after the expected return
of the Spaniard hero, Rafael Nadal.
