Andy Murray on a rampage, Roger Federer improves ranking despite title loss
Finally the thrills and excitements of Rogers Cup in Toronto have come to an end with a successive victory of British ace Andy Murray in the final Match against Swiss tennis sensation Roger Federer. After winning the semi finals against World No. One Rafael Nadal, the 23-year old was already cruising on with an unstoppable momentum and pace.
It is never easy playing against Federer but Murray kept his calm. The score remained 7-5, 7-5 in straight sets. Federer seemed pretty confused and out of his best form while Murray dominated the match and successfully secured two early break points in the first set and led frustrated Federer into making mistakes. However, Federer bounced back strongly but it was Murray’s sheer determination that made him take the lead by grabbing a break point and serving successfully to settle the brawl in the first set. Match stopped due to rain during the second set. It helped Murray in thinking and planning his next move and he clutched another break point right after the break. It was a crucial moment as Federer fought back and grabbed a break point to level the match 3-3. Murray saved Federer’s break and ultimately clutched the victory after a nerve wrecking and stamina jolting war.
This victory is no doubt remarkable for Murray because it is the first title he has won this year and has achieved it at a time when the year’s final Grand Slam is approaching. He now is considered the first player after legendry Andre Agassi to win the Canadian Tennis title back to back. After the victory, Murray said that he was happy with the way he played. He termed Federer as one of the toughest opponents who has the ability to return to the match despite initial difficulties. Murray added that it was a very tough match.
It is said that Murray’s crucial wins over Nalbandian and Nadal made him even more eager for the title. He played to his best and kept Federer running and struggling all over the court. The other factor that affected the title match was the rain but Murray dealt with the rain interruptions pretty well. His aggressive approach also paid off. On the other hand, 29-years old Federer remained optimistic and said that he did a good job and is now finding the right rhythm which is a very good sign for him. He added that he is getting consistent again and so far has been really successful to grab his lost winning form. Federer, despite losing the title match has been successful in improving his World ranking to number two.
Both Murray and Federer are now eying the final Grand Slam of the season and winning it may not prove easy for anyone.
