Andy Murray ousts Gilles Simon to make it to the Monte Carlo quarterfinals
British Number 1 Andy Murray seems all set to dismiss the losing streak which has been plaguing him since the 2011 Australian Open title match, as he cruised to a comfortable victory over French pro Gilles Simon in the third round of the 2011 Monte Carlo
Masters. The match was an easy one for the World Number 4, as he defeated Simon 6-3, 6-3. The match lasted just a little over one hour and thirty-five minutes.
Murray seems to be back in form, and has been doing quite well at this tournament. He committed just one double fault against Gilles Simon, who scored two aces along with two double faults. The British pro managed to score an impressive 70 per cent of his
first serve points, while Simon could barely managed 45 per cent. The French tennis pro struggled during the match, and was broke six times out of ten. Murray is form is the worst nightmare for most Top 20 players, and he seemed to be on the offensive in this
match.
Andy Murray himself was only broken three times throughout the match, which consisted of nine service and return games apiece for the players. He also won 67 of a total of 118 points during the match, taking a satisfactory 57 per cent of the total points
played in the match. The match ended with Murray setting up an impressive 6-3, 6-3 score-line against his opponent.
The two players now have a head-to-head score of 5-1, with the advantage going to Murray. The British pro has beaten Simon twice before this, and is generally the more successful player with 16 ATP career titles against the eight that Simon has. Their last
meeting was last year at the 2010 Wimbledon Championships, in the third round of the tournament. Murray prevailed over Simon in straight sets on that occasion.
The British pro seems to have gotten over the disappointment of losing the chance to win his first Grand Slam to Novak Djokovic, and has been playing well this past week. He will be taking on Portuguese qualifier Frederico Gil in the quarterfinals of the
event.
