Andy Murray outshines Viktor Troicki in the second round draw – Monte Carlo Rolex Masters 2012
British number one, Andy Murray, took off his Monte Carlo Rolex Masters campaign in an emphatic fashion, overwhelming the world number 30, Viktor Troicki of Serbia, in the second round clash on Tuesday. The third seed Briton faced no real challenge in dumping the 26-year-old Serb in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3, marching into the third round draw of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event.
Troicki hung in the contest for just 67 minutes, before submitting to the fury of the world number four in the second set of the match. Murray kept his clean sheet against the Serbian, outmuscling him for the fifth straight time in the singles encounters. The last combat between these two took place in the fourth round of the 2011 Roland Garros French Open and Murray had to go through five gruelling sets before sealing victory. It was a much easier task for the British tennis ace on Tuesday and he cruised through both sets comprehensively to lead 5-0 against the Serbian.
"Normally when I come here I usually find I need a few matches to get adjusted," said Murray, after registering his first victory at Monte Carlo this season, "But I played very well. I wasn't getting that many free points with the serve. I was using it more to set the way I was playing the points up rather than going for free points.”
Murray lost in the semis last year at this coveted clay-court event in Monte Carlo, Monaco but is determined to lift the title this time round. He delivered his first serve with a phenomenal precision of 82 per cent and dropped merely two points on it, bagging 25 out of 27 points en route to victory. He crafted 12 break opportunities in the match and converted five of them to drive Troicki out of the competition with authority. The Serbian, on the other hand, utterly failed in registering a single serve break in the entire matchup, finishing on the losing side in the end.
Murray will play his third round matchup against the winner between Julien Benneteau and Jurgen Melzer.
