Andy Murray overpowers Alexandr Dolgopolov to clinch the title – Brisbane International 2012
World number four, Andy Murray of the Great Britain, carried on his unbeaten record against the 15th ranked Ukrainian, Alexandr Dolgopolov, when he outplayed him in the final of the Brisbane International on Sunday.
The top ranked Scott barely took 66 minutes to wrap up his straight sets victory in the most assertive manner, settling the final scores at 6-1, 6-3, to lift the season-opening ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) championship trophy in Brisbane, Australia.
The 24-year-old registered his third consecutive win over Dolgopolov, who last time lost to Murray in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open 2011. The Briton face no real difficulty in dumping the third seed Ukrainian in the
final of the ATP World Tour 250-level tournament, claiming his first championship title to have an impactful start to the new season.
Murray fired nine thudding aces to the opponent’s court and dropped just five points on his first serve to clinch 25 out of 30 points en route to victory. The top seed crafted a total of 10 break opportunities in the matchup and
converted half of them to dispose of his bleak opponent, who proved to be a total mismatch to the fury of Murray in the competition.
Dolgopolov’s sloppy start to the contest provided the first break opportunity to Murray in the fourth game and the Scott rightfully cashed it in to go 3-1 in no time. Another break point conversion in his next serve game left Murray
serving for the set at 5-1 and the top seed ad no difficulty in closing out the opener with a breadstick at 6-1.
The top seed stung two straight break points right up in the second set to rocket away to 4-1 but Dolgopolov finally broke his impetus in the sixth game to register his first serve break of the day. He couldn’t hold it much longer
and the fifth break point conversion of the day from Murray sealed the championship victory for him at 6-3. The Briton has now extended his title count to 22 and is very confident for his voyage at the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, starting
after a week.
