Andy Murray plans to follow a relaxed schedule this season – Tennis News
Andy Murray has learned that he will have to pursue a reasonable schedule in order to be fit for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London at the end of this season.
The Brit has a made a good start in 2012 and is in a good position to qualify for the season ending championship. This will be Murray’s fifth straight participation at the World Tour Finals, provided he qualifies for the event.
The world number four faced disappointment last year, as he was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a groin injury, after featuring in only one match.
Murray said, “The end of last year was a bit unlucky. I got a freak injury so I look forward to performing well there this year, if I qualify. I need to make sure I structure my year and plan it well and not make any mistakes with
that.”
Murray admitted that he made some mistakes while scheduling his last season. The Brit thinks that he should not have participated at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, in February and Swiss Indoors in Basel at the
end of the year.
The 24-year-old suffered an odd injury at the Swiss Indoors in Basel last year, which was later identified as a sciatic nerve problem.
Murray is also aiming to win his Grand Slam this year and will also try to grab a Gold Medal at the London Olympics.
The Brit is happy that London will be hosting a number of big tennis events this year. If he qualifies for the finals, Murray would be participating in four events in London. He will begin at the AEGON Championships, followed by
Wimbledon, Olympics and ATP World Tour Finals at the end.
Murray said, “Every time I play at home I get great support so I look forward to playing in London every time. It helps to be at home for sure, especially because now I am spending a bit more time training abroad, I am not really
at home that much.”
The Brit’s best result at the ATP World Tour Finals came in 2008 and 2010, reaching the last four on both occasions.
