Andy Murray rallies past David Ferrer into the semis – Wimbledon Championships 2012
World number four, Andy Murray, reached his fourth successive semi-final of the Wimbledon Championships, overcoming Spain’s fifth ranked player, David Ferrer, in the quarter-finals at the All England Club on Wednesday.
The British number one bounced back from a deficit of one set to defeat the Spaniard 6-7(5), 7-6(6), 6-4, 7-6(4) in a hard fought encounter.
Murray took his revenge from Ferrer, as the Spaniard had defeated Murray in the quarter-finals of the French Open at the start of last month.
Coming back to the latest match, Ferrer was first to take lead, as he struck in the fourth game and held his next serve to race to a 4-1 advantage. The Spaniard failed to serve out of the set at 5-4, equalising the score at 5-5.
Both players held their following serves to take it to 6-6 and force a tie-breaker.  Ferrer got off to a 2-0 lead and sustained it till the end to win 7-6(5).
The Spaniard and the Brit held their serve in the opening eight games of the second set to take the score to 4-4. Ferrer captured a breakthrough in the ninth but failed to serve it out at 5-4, evening out the proceedings at 5-5.
It was again taken into a tie-breaker, where the Spaniard missed a set point at 6-5, losing three points in a row and going down 6-7(6).
In a similar fashion to the second set, none of the two players was able to break his rival in the first eight games of the third set, levelling the score at 4-4 and taking it to a tie-breaker. Murray snatched a break in the ninth
and held his subsequent serve without dropping a single point to capture it 6-4.
Murray and Ferrer won their serves throughout the fourth set to force a tie-breaker. The Brit grabbed an early lead and maintained it till the end to triumph 7-6(4).
During the post match press conference, a jubilant Murray said, "Obviously the goal now is to win the next match and try and get through to the final for the first time .I'm obviously happy. I've had a good run here the last few
years, but I'm not satisfied with that. I want to try and go further."
The Brit added, "I knew it's a lot harder to hold serve from the near end of the court. I think both times when he served for it, he was serving at that end. I just tried to make him play some balls, tried to dictate more of the
points."
Murray is pitted against France’s fifth seed, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, in the semi-finals.
