Andy Murray ready for David Ferrer
Andy Murray is set to take on Spaniard David Ferrer on Thursday November 25. Murray will be looking to impress after a disappointing match against Roger Federer on Tuesday November 24
were he was easily defeated in straight sets. Both Ferrer and Murray are still in contention for a semi-final berth in the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals year-end tournament in London. Murray goes into Thursday’s match as the favourite. However, with all four
players in Group B in contention for the two semi-final berths, nothing can be taken for granted.
"Obviously it's a very tough match," Murray opined on his upcoming match.
Murray opened his year-end tournament with a comfortable straight set victory over Soderling, however, he followed that up with a straight-sets loss to Roger Federer and now finds himself
in a must-win position on Thursday. Murray, started his 2010 with a strong showing at the Australian Open, making it to the finals before falling to Roger Federer in straight sets. He once again made it to the semi-finals of Wimbledon, only to fall to eventual
champion Rafael Nadal in straight sets. His two titles this year came at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in Shanghai and Toronto. Murray, who reached the semi-finals at the year-end tournament in 2008, is no doubt hoping to add to his impressive
2010 season with a semi-final berth.
"David's a really tough player, he makes many, many balls. You know, he's incredibly consistent," Murray stated to reporters.
David Ferrer, a finalist at the 2007 year-end tournament, lost his two opening matches in straight sets. He has had a strong 2010 campaign which has been highlighted by two tournament
wins, at Valencia, his home tournament, and in Acapulco, both ATP World Tour 500 level tournaments. He reached his first ever ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Rome in May, losing to Rafael Nadal in straight sets. Unfortunately, his play in London
hasn’t been stellar, opening his campaign with a straight-sets loss to Roger Federer, which was followed up by another straight-sets loss Tuesday November 24 to Robin Soderling. While Ferrer brings a winning record against Murray into tomorrow’s match, Murray
won their only match on hardcourts, which plays similar to the courts in London. Ferrer, a clay-court specialist, will need to play his very best should he have a chance of defeating Murray on the fast courts in London. Yet he remains confident ahead of Thursday’s
match.
"I know with Andy will be a very difficult match. But with all the players – we are the best eight players of the world - I fight." David Ferrer said regarding his match on Thursday, adding,
“"I will fight everything. I will fight with Andy too. I will try to do my best."
Federer is set to take on Soderling Thursday November 25, in the first match of the day. The players earning semi-final berths from Group B will be decided based on the outcomes of Thursday’s
matches.
