Andy Murray responds to Tommy Haas’ criticism about his fake injuries – Tennis News
Great Britain’s number one tennis player, Andy Murray, has hit back at Tommy Haas’ criticism on him.
Haas, who is a former world number two, said that Murray has a habit of faking injuries. The German said that Murray acts like he can’t even move before the start of the match and then runs like a cat afterwards. Haas added that
almost all the players on the tour know about this, as they talk regarding this issue in the locker room.
In his reply to this, Murray said, "All the time I have been on tour I've been called many, many things, from my personality not being exciting enough to boring. It was said I was unfit, lazy, I fake injuries. I mean, all sorts.
It's something that goes hand in hand with playing sport. People criticise you regularly.”
The Brit added, "So it's something you need to just deal with. But I don't care for Haas' opinion. If he thinks that, good for him."
Murray did not have a good European clay court season, as the world number four was unable to reach even the title match in any of the four events he featured. After losing to the then world number 25, Milos Raonic of Canada, at
the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, the Brit revealed that he was suffering from a back injury since last December.
The London, England resident also withdrew from the Mutua Madrid Open and his participation at the following events was also in doubt. However, he took part in both Internazionali BNL d’Italia and the Roland Garros but could not
give good results.
The Brit was upset by France’s Richard Gasquet, ranked 22nd in the world at that time, in three sets 7-6(1), 3-6, 2-6 in the third round of Rome Masters. The right-hander, once again, disappointed his British fans, as
he lost to lower ranked, David Ferrer of Spain, in the Roland Garros quarter-finals.
Murray was expected to make a good start on grass courts but his Wimbledon preparations also received a severe blow, as he was stunned by France’s Nicolas Mahut, ranked 65th in the world, in three sets 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(1)
in the second round at the AEGON Championships on Wednesday.
However, Murray said that there is nothing to get worried about. He said sarcastically, “It's panic stations now. I've just got no chance to be ready for Wimbledon. It's going to be impossible, I think.”
Murray lost to the then world number two, Rafael Nadal, at last year’s Wimbledon Championships.
