Andy Murray rolls over Tatsuma Ito into the second round – French Open 2012
Fourth seed, Andy Murray of Great Britain, made short work of Japan’s Tatsuma Ito, ranked 68th in the world, in his opening match at the French Open in Paris on Tuesday. The Brit dropped just six games throughout the
contest, winning in three sets 6-1, 7-5, 6-0 and advancing to the round of 64.
Murray made a great start, as he captured first five games to build a 5-0 lead. Ito avoided a bagel by opening his account in the sixth and taking the score to 1-5. However, the Japanese failed to do anything more and lost it 1-6.
The Brit won most of the points on his serves, converting 13 of the 15 first and five of the seven second deliveries into points in the opener. He did well on the replies to his opponent’s serves, securing 10 of the 18 return points.
The 25-year-old also banged in one ace and six winners.
Murray and Ito traded one break in the first 10 games of the second set to square off the score at 5-5. The Brit hit a blow to his opponent in the 11th and did not lose any point in the following one to triumph 7-5.
The London, England resident played aggressively, hitting eight winners and 14 unforced errors. The 6ft 3in tall availed two of the five break chances he created and put away three of the four threats he came across in the second
set.
Murray played flawlessly in the third, as he did not lose any game, snatching three breaks of serve and claiming six in a row to seal it 6-0.
The Brit smacked a single ace and committed the same number of double fault. He did not lose even one point on the first serves, winning all of the eight of them in the third set.
Commenting on the match, Murray said, "The first and third sets were very comfortable. The second set could have been, but I obviously played a bad game. For a first round match in a Slam, good start."
The Brit will now take on Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in the second round.
He added, talking about his next opponent, "I practised with him on clay before, and I've always normally enjoyed playing against left-handers. He's got a lot of experience, and he's won some good matches here in the past. He beat
Agassi here, as well, quite a while back. He's not scared of causing an upset."
This will be the fourth match between these two. Murray leads 3-0 in the head to head series.
