Andy Murray says he is trying to stop swearing during matches – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, has said that he would try his best to control his swearing level in his matches from next season.
The British number one gets too hyper during crunch matches and fails to control his emotions then. The 25-year-old has been often seen cursing himself after losing important points during hard fought encounters.
Murray understands that its bad and he should have control on his actions during his matches but the Brit also said that he, at least, uses less obscene words than some other players on the ATP Tour. The right-hander thinks that those foreign players do
not get caught as they swear in their local languages, while most of the umpires stand only English.
Talking to the reporters during a recent press conference, Murray said, “Obviously, me saying s**t or whatever is bad and wrong, and it's something I want to try to stop doing. But it isn't as bad as some of the stuff the foreign players come out with. I
wouldn't want to name any names, but some of what they say is ghastly. It's just that all of the umpires speak English.”
Murray is getting coaching from former world number one, Ivan Lendl, who was considered the coolest tempered player of his time. It is hoped that Lendl would have been already guiding Murray on how to control anger during big matches.
Anyone who has played tennis would know that it is very difficult to control emotions after losing a crucial point with an unforced error. Professional players can be even found fighting with umpires and breaking their rackets in frustration.
Umpires used to be strict in the previous decades but ITF and ATP has advised them to allow players to show more emotions on the court. Previously, umpires used to award point against the player, who used to break racket in a bad manner.
One of the shortest tempered players in tennis history, John McEnroe, has backed Murray to win a couple of Grand Slams in the next season.
McEnroe said, “You could be looking at Andy winning a couple of majors next year. He has enjoyed by far the best year he has ever had, even though he had a couple of tough losses at the end.”
Murray defeated the world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the final of the US Open to capture his maiden Grand Slam title this year.
