Andy Murray says he would love to win Gold Medal at the London Olympics
Andy Murray has shared with the media that he wants to win his first Grand Slam event and a Gold Medal at the London Olympics in 2012.
The Brit said he is excited that London will be the capital of the tennis world in 2012 and Olympics will be one of the several big tournaments in the metropolitan city this year.
Murray believes this will be an incredible season for tennis in London. It starts with the AEGON Championships at the Queen’s Club in June, followed by Wimbledon Championships and London Olympics at the All England Lawn Tennis
Club. The curtain to the feast will be dropped at the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in November.
The Brit added he wants to make a breakthrough at the Grand Slams this year but the best thing would be if he wins an Olympics Gold too.
Murray shared, “I want to win my first grand slam but I would also love to gain an Olympic gold medal. I’ve played in it before and have some special memories of being there with athletes from other sports.”
The 24-year-old said he will have to revise his schedule to participate at the London Olympics but that would not be a major problem.
He added, “The Olympics are much higher in profile than they used to be and Federer, Djokovic and Nadal will also be there trying to become the champion. And being in London makes it very special for me as I will be playing in
front of my fans. We also have Wimbledon and the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, so this is going to be a massive year for tennis in this country.”
Murray will be participating at the biggest sports event of the world, Olympics, for the second time. Ranked sixth at that time, the Brit was upset by the then world number 77, Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei, in the first round
at the Athens Olympics in 2008.
However, this time Murray is an improved player compared to his previous try. Moreover, Murray will have the added advantage of playing at his favourite surface and support from his home crowd.
The Brit is in good touch this year, as he has a win/loss record of 17-4. The three-time Grand Slam finalist grabbed title at the Brisbane International at the start of the season and finished runner up at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis
Championships and Sony Ericsson Open recently.
