Andy Murray shares Ivan Lendl is a hard taskmaster – Tennis News
World number three, Great Britain’s Andy Murray, said in a recent interview that his coach, Ivan Lendl, gives him a hard time during the training sessions but the Brit also added that he loves that.
Murray stated, “He’s a hard taskmaster but I love that. The fact that he’s been there and done it and knows what I’m feeling helps massively.  All the guys around me have been pushing me and although the sessions are gruelling,
I know the benefits will be worth it. I’ll be going into 2013 in the best shape possible.”
Why would Murray hate that, as he has achieved new heights under the coaching of Lendl. Murray and Lendl joined hands at the start of 2012, getting best results of the Brit’s career during this season. Lendl effect is in front
of everyone, as Murray has become clearly a far improved player than before.
The British number one had lost three Grand Slam finals before hiring services of Lendl. Although, the 25-year-old lost in the semi-finals of the first Grand Slam of the season, one step shorter of his past two years’ performances,
still everyone noticed the positive difference in his game.
Murray’s performance graph went down during the clay season but it was his time after that. The Brit reached the title match of Wimbledon for the first time but once again fell one step short, losing to one of the best players
of all time, Roger Federer.
The 6ft 3in tall could not hold his tears after losing the Wimbledon final but that proved to be the turning point, as he defeated the same player at the same venue after one month to capture gold medal at the London Olympics.
The right-hander went on to win his maiden Grand Slam title four weeks later, grabbing the US Open crown.
When asked if physical training gets easier or difficult with the growing age, Murray replied that it gets difficult with the passing time. He said, “It never gets easier, that’s for sure. A few years back I could pretty much eat
what I wanted on the off-season, but I’ve noticed that as you get older you have to watch what you eat a bit more when you are not training.”
Murray is tipped to win more Grand Slams by most of the former greats and sport’s followers. The Brit can also become world number one if he performs at his best in the first half of next season.
