British number one, Andy Murray, displayed flawless performance at the Wimbledon Championships 2012, third of the four Grand Slam events held in London, England. His magical run of form result a final berth and despite bowing out to the 17-time Grand Slam
champion Roger Federer, the Scot was praised by everyone.
Murray displayed dismal performance in the Wimbledon warm-up tournament held in Queens Club. He was seeded top at the AEGON Championships but crashed out in the opening round at the hands of the French contender, Nicolas Mahut.
However, he re-gathered his strength before entering the ALL England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and made a winning start. The Brit devastated the Russian challenger, Nikolay Davydenko with double breadstick in two hours and eight minutes. He was never
threatened with any breakpoint and cashed in six out of 13 break chances to bag the match inch closer to make history.
Ranked fourth in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Murray rallied past in his next two matches against Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic and the Cypriot number one, Marcos Baghdatis, but found his momentum against in his pre-quarters match against
16th seeded Marin Cilic. The Brit smashed 16 aces and was broken once in his match against a seeded player.
The 25-year-old high-spiritedly cruised into the quarter-finals the world number five, David Ferrer, awaited him. He lost the opener but not only advanced into the final four but avenged his Roland Garros loss against the Spanish number two.
In the semi-final clash against fifth seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the Scot showed his class and carved out the victory in a four-set thriller, eventually setting-up a date with the Swiss number one.
The former world number two, Murray, thundered into the Centre Court in his match against the third seeded Federer. He made quick in-roads and pulled out the opener with a 6-4 success through massive groundstrokes from his box of tricks. However, the Brit
stepped off gas after that and squandered some important chances in the follow-up set. In addition to this, the Swiss Ace’s game was getting better and better. As a result he bowed out to the new number one, Federer, with a 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 4-6 loss.
He might have lost against the Swiss Maestro but his spectacular performance was praised by the whole world.
“Today [was] pretty hard, because you're playing in front of a [British] crowd like that. The atmosphere was unbelievable, one of the best I've played in. [My] whole family had come to watch. So, yeah, it's tough,” the ecstatic Scot was quoted in a post
match press conference.
“I'd say that's the best I've played in a slam final. I played a good match. I made pretty good decisions for the most part, so I'm happy with that. I felt more comfortable this morning and before the match than I had done maybe in the previous slams.”
The elegant Murray also became the first British contender to make a final appearance at this prestigious grass court tournament since 1938. He is currently taking a week off before beginning his hard court campaign.
