Andy Murray talks about the experience of playing Olympics – Tennis News
World number four, Andy Murray, is all set to compensate for a shocking exit in the last edition of Olympics in Beijing with a monumental achievement in this year’s London Olympics. Talking about Olympics, he stated, “Tennis at
the Olympics has become a big deal, everyone plays it now, whereas 10, 15 years ago guys were skipping the Olympics. It's one of the best experiences I've had as an athlete.”
Number one Briton further added, “I went to the opening ceremony in Beijing - it was unbelievable. It's a bit surreal because it's such a massive thing and you don't quite realise at the time. As a tennis player you're used to
walking out into the stadium and its like, 'Hi, how're you doing?' When you walk out in the Olympic arena it's just very different."
In Beijing, Andy was sharing a room with his brother, Jamie, which was a very bad experience having seen early exits. He is planning to stay alone this time around in the village of London. He admits that there is no such feeling
being part of such a mammoth event and playing in front of the home crowd at mother soil will just double the treat this year.
Taipei's then-world number 77, Lu Yen-Hsun, was the one who registered an upset against the Scot but this time around, he looks to fulfil his dream of winning the gold. It will not be an easy at all with a lot of players bidding
for their dream shot at the gold; however, if Murray is able to outfox the top three ranked players in the world, then he has an outer chance of completing a childhood dream.
Judy Murray is his mother. Stating further about his dismal performance in Beijing Olympics, the son of Judy Murray, Great Britain’s Fed Cup team, stated, “I was really disappointed with myself because I won the tournament in Cincinnati
the week before. I think I messed up my preparation a little bit."
He must have learned his lesson from the past experience and come out as a much more improved player. He has been performing really well this year but hasn’t been able to create a mark against the top three players. He needs to
step up and perform well against them to enhance his chances of winning the gold medal.
