Andy Murray thanks British crowd for its support in his Olympics third round victory - Tennis News
British number one, Andy Murray expressed joy after his outstanding victory, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the third round of the London Olympics on Wednesday.
The world number four was the finalist of the Wimbledon Championships and contested a fierce battle against the reigning world number one, Roger Federer. He is back on the courts of the All-England-Club to secure a gold medal
in his Olympics medal. Unlike other players, Murray has the greatest advantage of playing on his home ground.
In a press conference, Murray told the media, “Yeah, it is overwhelming. I’m not kind of used to that. I want to achieve everything that I can. The only way of doing that is by giving a hundred percent. After the final, the
support from friends, family, people I bump into in the street, the politicians and celebrities were amazing.”
He further added, “I felt my demeanour was better. The support I got after the final made a huge difference to me, to my confidence. Their support also made a difference to my practice after that loss (to Federer) because
I wanted to get back on the practice court straightaway.”
For the young Scot, the London Olympics carries great weight age in order to strengthen his professional standing as the future tennis legend. He has never won a Major title in any leading tournament. However, he claims to
be in prime shape after the Wimbledon Championships this year.
Murray is the hot favourite for the British crowd to win the Olympics and hence colossal amount of liability of the gold medal rests on his shoulders. The Brit had to face tough competition in the earlier rounds but he dumps
the Swiss number two, Wawrinka and Finland’s Nieminen with straight set victories. Murray’s focus can be judged from the simple fact that he defeated the 45th ranked senior player, Marcos Baghdatis, in his third round and took the lead
in head-to-head lead of 5-4.
The British professional thinks that coming back to Wimbledon for Olympics is a “great feel”. His victory is surely a threat for the top seeded contenders of the Olympic gold medal like Federer and Djokovic. Nonetheless,
he is resolute to be a part of the Great Games for as long as he has the stamina.
Murray passion is transcending ever since the start and so far, he has proved his fair chance to upset all odds.
