Andy Murray to make debut at Brisbane International in 2012 – Tennis News
Falling to the fourth spot in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Rankings by the year end, British number one Andy Murray will make his debut at the Brisbane International in 2012 as the top
seed player.
The official release of the full field of ATP event next month came on Thursday, making the tournament even thrilling one. The 24-year-old Scott will be joined by seven other players who have been in the Top-10, namely Gilles Simon
of France, the Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, America’s James Blake, former champion Radek Stepanek, Spain’s Tommy Robredo, Jurgen Melzer from Austria and Tommy Haas of Germany.
The ATP World Tour 250 event will also feature a number of upcoming tennis players, like Ryan Sweeting, Donald Young and Ryan Harrison from the United States and the local teenager, Bernard Tomic as well.
In the absence of the defending champion Robin Soderling of Sweden, Murray has been placed as number one seed in the tournament draws. Soderling devastated the former world number one, Andy Roddick of the United States, in straight
sets, 6-3, 7-5, in the last year’s edition of the Brisbane International to claim the championship.
The 16th ranked Ukrainian, Alexandr Dolgopolov, and Swiss indoors Basel finalist, Kei Nishikori, are also returning to be a part of the Brisbane International in the coming season. Tournament director, Cameron Pearson,
is extremely delighted about the top class players’ commitment to be a part of the exciting field at Brisbane International.
“The Brisbane International is getting bigger each year,” Pearson said. “We have attracted another world-class field.  Between them they have won 23 Grand Slam titles. It’s wonderful to see so many players returning, as well as
seeing some of the best players in the world sign on for the first time. It’s going to be intriguing to see how each player performs, and who can start the year off with a title win and set themselves up for a great run heading into the Australian Open.”
Although the Brisbane International is a World Tour 250-level event, the tournament holds key for all the players to get their necessary momentum and get prepared for the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open, later in the
same month. It will be a perfect opportunity for injury-stricken Murray to warm up himself in Brisbane before taking up the bigger challenge at the Australian open.
