Andy Murray topples Tommy Robredo to reach pre-quarters – Wimbledon Championships 2013
Olympic gold medallist, Andy Murray, outclassed the 32nd seed, Tommy Robredo, in straight sets at the Wimbledon Championships 2013 on Friday.
He penned down a 6-2, 6-4, 7-5 win against the Spanish veteran to secure a spot in the fourth round at this prestigious event held in his home ground.
Seeded second in this event, Murray showed spectacular skills to overpower the former world number five in their sixth encounter. With this victory, the Brit avenged his loss at the Hopman cup three years ago and levelled the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series
by 3-3 against Robredo.
The British top ranked star commented in a courtside interview after stealing the show, “I hit the ball really, really well from the back of the court tonight from the first game. That was pleasing because I served well the first couple of matches, but maybe
I hadn't hit the ball quite as I would have liked. But playing under the roof, it's a bit easier probably to time the ball because there's no wind or anything.”
Murray cruised to a 4-1 lead after capitalising on two break chances at the Centre Court. Despite losing his serve in the sixth game, the Scot availed another break chance and pulled out the opener with a 6-2 score line.
The 26-year-old kept momentum rolling in the following set and drew the first blood in the opening game to take the initial lead. He then held his entire serves with conviction and subsequently sealed the set by winning six games to four.
Ranked second in the world, Murray maintained consistency in his game in the third set. He showed brilliant defensive skills to keep his entire serves. The Brit got the breakthrough in the second last game and clicked the set with a 7-5 win.
Next in queue for Murray is the conqueror of the match between 20th seeded Mikhail Youzhny and the Serbian challenger, Viktor Troicki.
The Dunblane native reflected about his upcoming battle, “[Youzhny] a very good grass court player. He was in the final in Halle. He's a very talented guy. Troicki, I've had some good matches with him in the past. I know his game well. He's extremely quick
around the court.”
The Austrian star, Jurgen Melzer, overpowered Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky in a four-set thriller to progress at this event. The Ukrainian was coming after upsetting the defending champion, Roger Federer, but he failed to carry his rhythm.
