Andy Murray trounces Alejandro Falla to advance into round three – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
World number four, Andy Murray, stomped over Colombia’s Alejandro Falla, in straight sets at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Friday. He jolted down a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Colombian veteran to secure a place in the round of 32 at this hard court tournament
held at Key Biscayne in Miami.
The British number one, who lost in his opening match at the BNP Paribas Open the first week of March, found his rhythm at this Masters 1000 event held at Floridian hard courts. He took 76 minutes to not only oust the world number 71 but also extended his
lead in their FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head series by 2-0.
"I was expecting it to be tricky... and managed to play better," said Murray. "Once I settled down and started playing well, I was in most of his service games. So I was putting pressure on him. The first game of the second set was very important. I had
saved a couple of break points and once I got ahead there, I felt much more comfortable."
The 24-year-old Scot jumped to a 2-0 lead after drawing the coveted break in the second game. Despite losing his edge in the proceeding game, he unleashed barrage of groundstrokes to stroke out the last four games in a row, eventually sealing the opener
by winning six games to two.
The Dunblane native, Murray, kept momentum rolling into the follow-up set and got the critical break in the second game to go 3-0 up. Apart from losing his edge in the seventh game, the Scot remained calm and capitalised on his second break chance in the
very next game, ultimately pulling out the victory with a 6-3 score line.
The 2009 titlist (downed Novak Djokovic in the final) is on fire this season. He captured his 22nd ATP career title at the Brisbane International in the start of this circuit (defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov in the title-round). The Scot then made
a final showdown at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships (lost to Roger Federer).
Murray will square off against the 26th seed, Milos Raonic, who outsmarted French qualifier, Arnaud Clement, in straight sets. The booming Canadian manipulated a 7-6(7), 6-2 victory over the qualifier in one hour and 44 minutes. He lost his serve
once but fired 17 aces and cashed in three out of nine break chances to seal the deal with a 7-6(7), 6-2 score line.
