Andy Murray wishes to win Olympic medal with his brother – Tennis News
Great Britain’s number one player, Andy Murray, has shared that he wants to win a medal in the doubles category with his brother, Jamie Murray, at this year’s London Games.
The younger of the two brothers, Andy, shared that he becomes happier after winning a doubles match with his brother than succeeding in his top singles encounters.
Murray, who was at the Wimbledon, being dressed in the Great Britain’s official kit for the London Olympics, was asked if he desired to win a medal in doubles with Jamie. The Brit replied, "I don't think it can get any better than
that, really. I know what it was like watching Jamie winning the mixed doubles here. I wasn't even playing and that was fairly emotional for me, so I can't imagine what it would be like to win an Olympic medal."
Jamie became the first British player in 20 years to win a title in any of the senior categories at the Wimbledon Championships, when he captured the mixed doubles crown with Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic in 2007.
The brothers are really emotional and close to each other, as none of them wants to let the other one down. They try their best to win together to help each other’s career.
Andy added, "When I play doubles with Jamie, I want to do well. I put a lot of pressure on myself because I know it can help him and it's also his career, as well. To get the chance to play with him at an Olympics is going to be
great but, at the same time, it is going to be fairly stressful.”
The Brit hoped that they get a good result in the doubles category because singles become tougher if the former does not go good.
Murray brothers enjoyed when they represented their country at the Beijing Olympics but they could not give an impressive performance in the competition, losing to the French duo of Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra in straight
sets 1-6, 3-6 in the round of 16.
The brothers have a couple of doubles title to their name but they have not captured any in this season. The Brits played their last event at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in April, where they lost to Pakistani-Dutch pair of
Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer in the second round.
Ranked fourth in the world, Murray is his country’s lone hope for winning a medal in the singles category.
