Andy Murray would reach semi-finals of Wimbledon Championships, thinks Roger Federer – Tennis News
Roger Federer, who is considered the best player in the history of tennis, has backed Great Britain’s number one player, Andy Murray, to reach the last-four stage at this year’s Wimbledon Championships.
Over the next two weeks, Murray will once again try to become his country’s first player to win a Grand Slam title since Fred Perry won the crown at the grass courts of All England Club for the last time in 1936.
The Brit has a tricky opening round, as he will start his campaign against former world number three, Nikolay Davydenko of Russia. The 25-year-old will have more early challenges ahead, as he is expected to take on Canada’s rising
star, Milos Raonic, in the third round.
However, Federer believes that Murray has many advantages over his opponents. The Swiss Maestro thinks that Murray will get favour from the home crowd, grass court and his exceptional talent. The 16-time Grand Slam champion, Federer,
thinks that despite his tough draw, Murray should at least reach the semi-finals here.
Talking to the media people, Federer said, "I think he wants to first get through the first round, like all of us. But absolutely I predict him to get there. Home-court advantage, playing on grass, with his talent and his game,
everything's right there for him. It's up to him to make it happen. I guess you always need a little bit of luck along the way.”
As the Swiss legend and the talented Brit are ranked number three and fourth in the world respectively, they have not faced each other in a Grand Slam event in the last two years. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have completely
dominated the Majors in this period, locking horns in the last four finals.
The Swiss legend added, “I haven't played Andy a whole lot the last couple of years. Obviously being ranked three and four for a while now, we haven't seen each other that often in the draws. I hope he does well."
Murray has ended as the losing finalist three times but his fans are hoping that the trend would change this time.
