Andy Murray’s disappointment is overridden by fantastic achievements in the season – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, couldn’t put aside the Serb superstar, Novak Djokovic, in the final of the Shanghai Rolex Masters on the 14th of October. He lost the match in three sets and that was probably due to
the fact that he wasn’t putting the 100% effort in that game. It was a gruelling encounter and there is no doubt about it but the Briton has played lengthier and taxing matches than that and he should have stayed up for the task that stayed unfinished. However,
the lapse of concentration and the depreciation of his stamina were definitely on the cards considering the hectic schedule of the season coupled with the introduction of the London Olympics that enhanced the wear and tear of the body of players.
However, it has been a terrific season so far for the 25-year-old Briton who has succeeded in grabbing on the maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open Championships. Moreover, the glory days started at the All England Lawn Tennis
Club when Murray was just a victory away from claiming the Grand Slam title at his home. It was the final of the Wimbledon Championships. However, Roger Federer stood in his way and broke the heart of millions. It was a great achievement from the Briton who
was just unlucky on that occurrence.
The British star didn’t lose heart and accomplished the revenge mission on Federer at the same court by winning a gold medal battle during London Olympics. Murray summarised the difference of his performance in the two latest seasons
in the following manner, “Last year I came away from Asia with three wins. I didn't win a Grand Slam and the Olympics; kind of a big year. This year I would have signed up for the way I played here and having won the US Open."
He further added, “I need to keep going about it like matches tonight in the same way I have been the last eight, nine months really, being aggressive, going for my shots. Then, hopefully, I'll win more matches than I lose playing
that way.
Talking about getting to the highest rank in the world which has always been the dream for the number one Briton, Murray said, "In terms of getting to No 1 it's an incredibly hard thing to do and it's not something right now I'm
focusing on.”
It is mathematically impossible for Murray to end the season as world number one but he can surely inch a step closer to that landmark.
