Andy Pettitte nearing retirement, according to Brian Cashman
The New York Yankees are lining up the next few days for a way to sign on Cliff Lee for the coming season. As the winter meetings hit the block in the off-season, 30 teams from the National League and the American League are looking
to land the best players in the league as the competition in the coming months, intensifies. The objective is clear for every General Manager; attending the meetings and the task is going to be the only way the clubs will fight for the playoffs.
Competition has hit the deck and teams are looking to scrap for what is left in the free agents’ market. When Jayson Werth signed on with the Washington Nationals, it depicted how difficult things were going to get for the teams
to sign on players on competitive salary packages. There are various problems involved with bringing in ball stars and ball clubs while having to deal with numerous issues like wage demands and minutes on the field.
However, things are different for the Yankees. The side may be after Cliff Lee but one of their star players is considering retirement. Andy Pettitte is one ball player who has been devoted to the Yanks and while he is out of the
club’s roster, Yankee supporters continue on counting him to return. Unfortunately, General Manager Brian Cashman has come out to offer an insight on Pettitte’s intention.
Cashman recently said, "He told me personally he was leaning toward retirement. He's not officially retired. I talked to his agent (Randy Hendricks) about maybe a week to 10 days ago, and that position hadn't changed. That's where
it's at as of right now."
For the Yankees, the objective is the same. Cliff Lee is a priority and the Steinbrenner brothers will be doing their best to get the ace on the Yankees as Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter return.
Brian further explained Andy’s situation. He said, "I move forward like I've done the last few winters. This is what Andy does. He goes home and deeply thinks about what's the next best step for him and his family. He'll come to
some sort of decision on that."
