Andy Robinson cross with Scotland’s defeat at the hands of Argentina - Rugby News
Scotland coach, Andy Robinson, is angry with his teams’ sluggish efforts in the defence against the Pumas. Argentina snatched a hard fought victory from Scotland on September 25 in Wellington with a slight lead of 13-12. Andy Robinson slammed his side for
their lack of concentration in the game and warned that the defeat could cost them an early exit from te Rugby World Cup 2011.
Talking to the reporters after the match Robinson said that his side displayed a poor defence in the later part of the game and let go an opportunity to win against the Pumas.
The coach also criticised his side for their poor start as they failed to make a good impression in the start of the match. Scotland played a sloe game during the whole first-half and managed to score just three points. The Pumas led the match by a slight
difference of 6-3 at the break but Scotland had done well to bounce back in the match after half-time. Scotland secured a testy lead of 12-6 over the rivals which required extensive vigilance from the defending bunch.
Unfortunately, the Scottish side could not work properly on their defence and provided the Pumas an easy chance to break the deadlock. All their good work in the second-half went in vain due to the carelessness of their defenders.
Robinson was let down by the defeat and put up stern criticism of his team. He commented that, “We had complete control of the game, but one slip of concentration cost us. First, to lose the restart, then secondly a poor defensive lapse. We played well second
half, but you've got to finish sides off," he said while praising Argentina. Credit to them, they were under a lot of pressure, but they have fighting spirit.”
The coach added that, “You saw what it meant to them to win this. The dressing-room is absolutely devastated. One lapse, 30 seconds of concentration, has cost them a Test match.”
Scotland is now left with one Pool match against England which is a must win game for them to qualify for the quarter-finals.
